After working for several major glass contracting businesses in the Des Moines Area for over thirty years, Larry Pollpeter decided to branch out on his own and start his own company. In February of 1992, Larry founded Two Rivers Glass and Door, Inc.  The company was started with one old pick-up with a glass rack and two other men to help. One was Stan Pollpeter, Larry’s brother. Stan would soon become the company’s fabricator until his retirement in 2010.

Two Rivers Glass’ first shop was located in the Central Place Area of downtown Des Moines. At first, Larry would work in the field and project mange during the day This is a picture of Stan, Larry, and John – the three founding Pollpeter brothers.and do the paper work, accounting and payroll at night with his wife, Jeanne.

Projects came in steady at first and then quickly evolved to a point where more glaziers were needed. Help was also needed to project manage the many jobs that Two Rivers was awarded. Larry soon asked his other brother John Pollpeter to help him out. John became a partner of the company in 1993 and sold his share back to Larry in 1999.

During the floods of 1993, Central Place was flooded and this included the Two Rivers Glass shop and offices. For a time the company was run from John’s basement at his home until new offices could be secured. In 1994 Two Rivers Glass moved into a new building in West Des Moines that included room for a fabrication shop and offices. One year later Joe Pollpeter, Larry’s son, joined the company as a draftsman and later became a project manager.

The company continued to grow every year. There became a need for a larger building. In the year 2000, Two Rivers Glass moved into its present location on South 11th Street in West Des Moines.

Joe Pollpeter purchased the company from his dad, Larry, in 2004. Larry worked for a time after that as a consultant and later fully retired. Joe continues to uphold the core values that became the foundation of Two Rivers Glass over twenty years ago; customer satisfaction, quality workmanship, integrity and treating employees with respect and making them a part of Two Rivers Glass’ success.

Along the way Two Rivers Glass has completed several significant and recognizable projects such as Bob Brown Chevrolet, West Glen Town Center, Grays Lake Bridge, Meredith Test Garden Fountain, Karl Chevrolet, Plymouth Place Window Replacement, and the Bedell Residence on Lake Okoboji.

The company has grown substantially since 1992, and now employees over 25 full time employees and a fleet of 10 glass trucks. As Two Rivers Glass continues to grow, we are very thankful to our loyal customers and vendors for their long term relationships.

Everyone at Two Rivers Glass is looking forward to our successful future and the evolution of the glass contracting environment.
